Student Sketchbooks
Each student is responsible for purchasing a sketchbook for their time as a high school student. This sketchbook will be used for the sequential classes and it will be used to take notes, create sketches and record artist information in it. Each week the students should be drawing and taking notes in their sketchbook.
1.) Photography
- Photo Challenge
Beyond the technical items we first cover, Photography is the first major topic we cover. Discussion of composition and rules are a must. Students will be challenged to take a variety of photos, either using their phones, cameras, or one of the schools newly acquired iPads.
Students will have a list of photos that they need to capture. With each photo, the students should implement the ideas the rules of composition that we discussed in class.

2.) Drawing
- Geometric Forms
Building on the knowledge gained from working and understanding positive and negative shapes, students began drawing basic 3D forms. No only did they have to be concerned with the forms, but they also had to understand the space on which they rested and were surrounded by. The forms are then completed with the use of vine charcoal. The forms needed to come to life with the use of value, no longer is it acceptable to outline shapes.

4.) Printmaking
(Graphic Design Meets Printmaking)
Printmaking is the process of making art by printing, normally on paper. In the early world prints were made onto cave walls. Later prints were make into clay tablets by Sumerians. Then the Chinese began using wood to print onto cloth. Eventually making its way to playing cards. We can find prints in the simplest forms today in rubber stamps.

A painterly version of printmaking, where the students can essentially paint the ink onto a heavy plastic plate and make a print. Students will experiment with several ways to add and manipulate ink onto the plate. Students will roll ink onto the plate, add material to the plate, add texture to the plate, brush ink onto the plate and make a copy of a master's painting using the ink.

5.) Painting
Color Wheel Creation
The lesson will begin with a discussion and note taking of color and color schemes. Students will then create their own color wheel in their sketchbooks. They will begin by finding the center, drawing circles and breaking down the sections for each of the colors (12). Students will fill the middle sections with the hue (pure colors). The outside colors will be the hue plus white (tint) and the inner portion will be the hue plus black (shade).

6.) Ceramics
Working with Clay
Students will get to experience clay with a simple lesson in making ceramic plaques. Students will have the opportunity to create signage that can vary in styles and looks, but either way they will have a fun piece that they can take home.
7.) Sculpture
The Final Exam
Yes even art has a final!
As long as the students have paid attention and taken notes during class, they should have no problems!
